For the next gingerbread house topic, I thought I would share a modern gingerbread house I made and photos of houses others have made. First here is my modern version of a gingerbread house.
I used coconut flakes for the snow. The garage is located on the right side of the house. It's funny that we never even think of adding a garage on traditional gingerbread houses. The green spearmints are being used for bushes. The little snowman is made from mini marshmallows.
Now I would like to share with you some amazing modern houses built by others.
From Inhabitat
This house was built by Nick Milkovich Architects who entered a gingerbread contest for architects. The houses were put up for auction and a portion of the money went to charity. This is my favorite modern gingerbread house by far.
From DeForest Architects
Trendhunter
This house was made by April Reed Cake Design, Plano,Ill. The house is a copy of the famous Mies van der Rohe modern masterpiece. A client commissioned the baker and for $ 4,320.00 it was built.Below is a photo of the actual house. This is my second favorite modern gingerbread house.

Although these houses are phenomenal and I enjoyed making a modern gingerbread house, I think my heart belongs to the traditional look of a gingerbread house. What about you ? I would love to know what you think.

Carey Ann,
What fun the gingerbread houses are! I saw your comment on My Notting Hill's post and was intriqued by your "house avatar."
Good luck with your new blog. I've only been at it since early summer, but it's loads of fun. Come visit sometime!
Best,
Susan
Hi Carey Ann, I, too, am new at blogging and have received much encouragement from other bloggers. I love your look and the idea of Pretty Little Houses - so charming! I will make a point of visiting you and hope you might take a moment to stop by Inspirational Sketchbook. Merry Christmas! Roxanne
These are really fun! Never thought before about a modern gingerbread house. By the way, one of my favorite Christmas songs from when I was a kid was playing when I visited your blog - I Saw Three Ships Come Sailing In.
Very interesting! Reminds me so much of the Frank Lloyd Wright homes. I love your skylight - very cool!
CareyAnn, welcome to bloggy land!! Your blog looks amazing!
Merry Christmas!
Becky
